Ormonde Halfcrown.  Charles I, 1625 - 1649, The Great Rebellion coinage of the Lords of Justice, Issue of James Butler Marquis, Duke of Ormonde, issued 1643 - 1644.

DF 292; Maurice Bull C-9 both obv and rev exact die match.  14.67 g. (requisite weight is 227 grains), 34 mm. An Ormonde Halfcrown w C  R, for Charles Rex, below a Crown on the obv., and large Roman numerals II and smaller VI, for 2 shillings, six pence on the reverse, both sides within a fine line circle and an outer toothed border.

Obv. A strong triangular pellet divides the C and R.  The C and R with flourished tails, the distant, the R touching but not breaking the fine line circle.  A diagnostic die flaw spike extends upward from the top of the rt globe of the crown.  Rx. Medium size II and small VI with a small pellet between, the four corners of the Roman numerals just touching the fine line inner circle, the top of the 2nd tall I slightly lower and slanting lower.  A diagnostic die line extends to the rt from the top rt seraph of the 2nd tall I.

Very Fine w good surfaces and old grey tone.  $2800.
