United Kingdom, Walthamstow, Essex.  British Copper Company 1812 Copper Penny Token.  22.64 g.; 35 mm.; edge centre grained left \\\\\; medal orientation.  Withers 561; Davis unlisted.  BRITISH COPPER COMPANY in centre within a wreath of oak; around, SMELTING WORKS AT LANDORE *.  No stalk on bottom right acorn; low G in SMELTING; the base of K in WORKS is lower than the R.  Rx Lion side, which is the true obv, but Davis set as the reverse, and established precedent.  ROLLING MILLS AT WALTHAMSTOW a lion standing left, head front; ONE PENNY / 1812 in exergue.  The base of K in WORKS is lower than the R.  The 2 in the date is under the first N in PENNY.  A heart shaped flaw can be seen developing below the Y.

Good Extremely Fine or better, w ample original red luster here and there.  Deeply struck on a full flan.  $250.
